HTM Blog

It was summer. We took my son Josh and his friend Michael to Cedar Point in Ohio for a weekend of fun!  I use to love to ride the roller coaster when I was younger but not so much now.   Clint, my husband, as a  younger person did not care for riding roller coasters, but in his middle age grew quite fond of the thrilling ride.  I decided I would pray about this as I did not want to ride to the coaster but wanted to be with my family instead of waiting on the side lines.  As I prayed I heard God speak to my heart, he wanted me to ride the roller coaster.  So I did.  The boys knew I did not want to ride and thought this was hilarious.  Not only did I ride, but I rode the Vortex, which has loops, hills, and turns, Oh No! As we boarded the roller coaster and began to slowly start the ride, I closed my eyes and prayed for God to get me through this frightful adventure.  The boys laughed and said, "Look she is praying."  Well, I made it through the ride with my eyes closed and praying the whole way.  As we got off the ride, we stopped and looked at the pictures that were taken as we rode.  Our picture showed Clint, Josh, and Michael plain as day.  However, the seat I was in next to my husband was vacant, and you could actually see the empty seat in the picture.  Michael looked at me and asked, "What did Jesus look like"?  I told him I did not know as I did not see anything but simply prayed for the whole ride.  My family and Micheal were astonished by this supernatural mysterious happening that could not be explained.  I believe this planted a God seed in Michael's life.  He does work in mysterious ways to build our faith!

All for His Glory,

Shelly

Have you ever read Guidepost Magazine, the article called "His Mysterious Ways"? I had a mysterious moment one day in my early twenties. Our family took my grandmother to the hospital for surgery.  When she returned from recovery, she was on a respirator.  After a while, the doctor returned and removed the respirator, and  my family and I watched my grandmother take her last breath.  I am glad the whole family was together on this heart-wrenching  day.

I left the room and walked down the hall until I found a room with a rocking chair and music playing.  I was not a Christian at the time.  The room was serene, so I rocked for a while and listened to the music, a song called "Stairway to Heaven."  I felt very peaceful and knew my grandmother had gone to Heaven.  I'm sure my family was worried about me, so I left the room to look for them.  As I walked a little way down the hall, I found my mother with a worried look.  I told her to come with me as I wanted her to see the room where I found such peace.  We walked back to the place I had been, but I could not find the room.  We asked a nurse where the room with the rocking chair was located.  She said, "We don't have a room like that." I believe God provided me with what I needed at that exact moment using what he knew to speak to my heart, which was a rock and roll song!  God knows what we need no matter where we are spiritually.  He can use anything to speak to us if we just listen.

In Him,

Shelly

In  Habakkuk 2:1-3, there are four keys to hearing God’s voice;

1. Stillness

I will stand on my guard post (be still).

Getting quiet before God in whatever way that works best for you.  I use worship and become still still before the Lord and then begin journaling.  Read from the Bible and place yourself in the scene and then journal letting God take you where he wants to go from there.

2. Vision

Looking into vision and gazing upon Jesus to see what he has for us to see or picture.

3.  Spontaneity

It is important to realize that the thoughts coming to you while spending time with God are real and valid. These thoughts are spontaneous thoughts and ideas coming from God to you.  It's good to have an experienced friend in hearing God's to advise you when you first begin journaling.

4.  Journaling

It is important to write down what God is saying to you so you can carry out his instruction and read back over your journal.

Habakkak 2: 1-3

I will stand on my guard post  (Stillness) and station myself on the rampart; and I will keep watch to see (Vision by fixing your eyes on Jesus what He will speak to me, (Spontaneity) and how I may reply when I am reproved. Then the LORD answered me and said, “Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets, that the one who reads it may run.  (Journal) For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal and it will not fail though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay.”

Never Give Up!

Have you ever prayed for someone for a long time?  Never give up!  Keep loving and guiding them down the right path!

I have a young friend I have prayed for over the last five years.  She has recently rededicated her life to the Lord, attending church, attending two Bible studies, and will become a member at her church on Sunday!  Never Give Up!
